MHS Debate Team Wins Big at Iroquois Districts Speech and Debate Tournament; Qualifies for National Tournament
By Noam Hessler
Great news for the MHS debate team! This year, at the Iroquois Districts Speech and Debate Tournament, all members of the MHS debate team who attended qualified for the National Speech and Debate Tournament in one or more categories.
While MHS has historically done quite well at Districts, with at least one MHS team qualifying in Public Forum debate every year for the past four years, this year has gone uniquely well. The members of the MHS debate team (which includes students from both MHS and U32) received the following awards as follows:
-
Ania Keane (U32) and her partner Kayl Humke (U32) took first place in the Public Forum debate tournament, qualifying for nationals, with Neil Rohan (MHS) and his partner Noam Hessler (MHS) receiving second place and also qualifying.
-
Ella Bradley (U32) took first place in the Lincoln-Douglas debate tournament, qualifying for nationals, with Kayl Humke (U32) taking second place and also qualifying.
-
Finally, Noam Hessler (MHS) took second place in the Extemporaneous Speaking tournament, qualifying for nationals as a result.
So, all and all a great tournament for MHS! Wish the debate team luck with the upcoming National Tournament in June.
